Subsites, Communities and Workspaces

Teamware Pl@za has been designed to support the interaction and collaboration of users.  One of the great strengths of the system is its group management features. Creating groups for dividing users into types or categories, complying to organizational hierarchy, enabling online communities or workspaces, or defining access controls is very flexible and powerful configurability option of the website. Selected group types for extranets, intranets and workspaces automatically generate a predefined subsite with a home page and services ready to be used instantly.  In addition, groups can be created for projects, committees, task forces, working groups and other types of groups which can then be defined to have a home page and services separately.

Parallel websites, subsites and sites for communities and extranets can be assigned their own domains or URLs.  Also, individual pages can have alias or short URLs, such as www.site.com/event2008  which take users directly to such page bypassing standard navigation.

Typically online communities, workspaces or subsites consist of a home page, additional content pages, membership roster or directory, subsite management tools and services such as document folders, image bank, discussion forums and event calendar.  Worksapces and online communities are managed by users in the various subsite administrator roles, which could be centralized to a few or distributed accross many users. Workspaces and online communities administrators need not to be website or system managers and will not have rights to manage other online communities, workspaces or the website.

Online communities and workspaces provide all the various groups and constituencies of an organization with a very effective way to communicate, collaborate and interact. This reduces the needed for face-to-face meetings, extend and supplement meetings for on-going work and reduce travel costs in cases of geographically separated users or distributed organizations.

Please see how the following sample subsiteintranet, and workspace on this demo site appear so different from each other and the main site.
